Welcome to my Blog!
Hello to my friends, to the people reading, and to the people who just want to know more. Hello to the leaders, the people who never want to lead, and the people who just want to understand why people act the way they do. Hello to government officials, academics, healthcare pros, artists, and everyone else. If you want to know more about empathy and how it works in human life, you’re in the right place.
The really cool thing about empathy is that it runs through almost all humans everywhere. It crosses cultures, national borders, age groups, ethnicities, and any other artificial divider you can conceive. It even spans species. Talk about a big topic!
So let’s be real: it’s such a big topic that NOBODY knows everything about it. I research it in depth, and the more I know, the more I know I don’t know. Drop the mic. But that doesn’t mean empathy’s not worth studying, trying to understand, and working to integrate it into our lives. Especially in leadership. While empathy is for everyone, leaders have the power to do a lot of good or a lot of damage, so the stakes are higher. We, as leaders, have the power to affect so many lives, and lives beyond that as our actions ripple out. And if we think past why it’s a non-negotiable for human interaction, using empathy is good for business. It really DOES increase profit, productivity, and innovation. Seems like a no-brainer.
So here’s what you can expect here. I’ll highlight people doing empathy right, and look at the ones who are really off the mark. We’ll look at empathy in society, in our schools, in our lives, and discuss some of the ‘WTF’ moments that come up in our society way too often. We’ll talk about why Dark Triad behaviors like narcissism and psychopathy are on the rise (because they are) and why empathy seems to be diminishing every year (because it is). There’ll be some research, some opinions, and some rants. But I can guarantee this – It will always be from my heart. No AI, no regurgitated nonsense, no excuses. Because if there’s one thing empathy is for sure, it’s from the heart.
